In 2013, the Irish and Irish Americans in Central Florida began coming together in a way they had never done before. Previously, the culture was somewhat disjointed. However, when the Republic of Ireland appointed Orlando attorney Terry Delahunty as the Honorary Consul of Ireland, something special happened, and it brought us together.
The time was right for an Irish business organization. The Orlando Hurling team had been up and running for a few years, bringing some Irish culture to the state. But there was no business group.
With the assistance of Mr. Delahunty, a small group of dedicated volunteers began meeting – first at Fiddler’s Green Irish Pub in Winter Park, then at the office of Orlando Attorney Cynthia Conlin. We discussed logos, a mission statement, and more. Eventually we moved our headquarters to the office of Fowler, O’Quinn, Feeny & Sneed, whose senior partner, Skip Fowler, was gracious enough to donate an office for us. We then set to planning what became a brilliant kick-off event which was held at Fiddler’s Green, a location which will forever be dear to our hearts.
The Irish American Chamber of Commerce Florida exists to:
- Further business, professional, government, and educational contacts between the State of Florida and the Island of Ireland;
- Provide a networking forum in Florida, with particular emphasis on Central Florida, for Irish and Irish-American professionals, businesspeople, educators, and government officials and enjoy ourselves in doing so; and
- Enjoy the company of our families, friends, and colleagues with similar interests; and
- Further other Irish-American causes, cultural and otherwise, within Florida, such as St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, Irish music, Irish GAA sports, and to promote the Irish Language and other Irish traditions.
